Australia Men isn't that much better compared to the other top four teams. Especially when Dwyer retired, they lost the single most skilled and experienced player possibly ever in the game.

Australia Women is only ranked fourth themselves, and everybody is miles behind the Netherlands.

It was hardly an unexpected outcome. The other top five showed up to every match with everything they had. Australia, and many others, didn't. That's all there was to it.

No Kieran Govers and Ciriello off his game left us with no offensive PC options. No Matthew Swann and Knowles carrying an injury really exposed us at the back. But then Aus choking at the Olympics is nothing new so whatever.

Poor work life balance, being situated in Perth, player burn out from a stringent training regime and player accountability. I've read some of the athletes blogs and articles post Olympics and these seem to be a few things they are critical of.

Have you looked at the points charts?

England are easily closer to sixth than they are to first, and if the gap was just 5% wider, they'd be closer to seventh too.
That's a four-year weighted running score; the Netherlands have been the best consistently since at least 2014.

Compare to the men's ranking where that disparity is almost reversed: Belgium in fifth are only four points closer to India in sixth than Australia in first. They're good, but not reliably the best.
