Well, this might just be me and Cascadia, but that's ok. :p

    The quarters are set.

    The match-ups are:

    East:

    Sabers (1) v Rangers (6)

    Sens (4) v Devils (2)

    West:

    Wings (1) v Sharks (5)

    Ducks (2) v Canuks (3)

The Sens are my favorite team but I also love Brodeaur (sleezy, but skilled) so I would be a least a little happy with any outcome in that series. I slightly favor the Rangers over the Sabers, but Ryan Miller had some awesome saves in the first round.

In the west ... man, I wish the finals could have been wings v sharks (sorry cas!) but I super hope the ducks don't make it out of this round.

And yeah, I totally cheer for teams based on their goalies.

i've gotta say im hoping for a wings vs devils finals but that probably won't happen because there is a lot of competition especially in the eastern conference!

    Them's fightin' words...

Oh yeah, my team's out. :( As a season ticket holder, absolutely breaks my heart.

Still, we just weren't good enough, and I pity any team that has to play Detroit. Incredibly smart, they haul down a player or two at the point where they are breaking out of their zone on a turnover EVERY TIME, will stand in the crease and poke and slap your keeper, and go for your knees at the end of a game - but somehow YOU as the opposition get caught standing up to them because the officials just don't see it...

    Okay. It's still a little raw. :(

Overall prognostication - I think the Sabres and Wings in the final, and the Sabres speed will finally show the Wings that they're TOO OLD.

    Damn. Still raw. ;)

Dude, as much as I'd never say the wings weren't harassing Kiprusoff, McLellan's actions were beyond any kind of reasonable response. I mean, I've been a goon before but 18 seconds into the game?

    Not a smooth move.

Perhaps. Of course, Franzen sold it to the NHL and reacted as though he'd been shot, after he'd sticked McLellan in the head. I'm sure Franzen didn't even have a bruise.

I would have much rather seen McLellan just toss his gloves and watch every single Wing player decline his invitation in order to make his point, but goalies are weird.

Now, let's just say that McLellan was sent out there to make a point in Game 5. 18:36 in the first of Game 6 - Holmstrom gets called for goalie interference. Coincidence?

Of course, it was back to business as usual after that and Detroit was allowed to run Kipper with impunity.

As someone who probably just saw the "highlights" on TV, be careful about making judgments about an incident out of context.

Now them's fightin' words! I saw all but one game of this series (minus a few first periods which were rude enough to start when I wasn't finished in lab).

Honestly, yeah, if he went in and dropped his gloves I'd not have blinked. I just think since hockey is one of thoes sports where if you want to have a fight, you do, that's the way to get it all out. Not what was essentally a sucker punch.

Also anything before the whistle was close to kosher, but after was silly.

Tragically enough, the team was named after the kids movie. It was the mighty ducks for years, until disney sold it. Now they're just the ducks.

As for tonight, I'm going to miss the rangers game because of practice (playing always beats watching) but should catch at least the last two periods of Ducks (as they hopefully lose)

    NHL Ice Hockey Play-Off Thread

Given that there was some discussion of this on another thread, thought I may as well start this one up on its own. Anyone want to talk play-offs? I know I'm psyched that the Canucks made it to the second round, even if they did just lose 5-1 to Anaheim... :eek:oh:

Hey dude. It's either late where you are, or you were so bummed about the game you missed this one!

    So now they're together.

I soooo did. Not that late, I'm just dense. Or bummed. Or both.

I'm sorry, but talent aside, losing to a team called the "Ducks" just hurts...
