Hey guys! I'm a goalkeeper from New Zealand and am looking to get new kit. I currently use all Obo Hi rebounds but feel like I might want to move away from it in the future, additionally I would like to know what size and what gear you guys use and why so I can get a better idea of what I want to do in the future. <3

How tall are you? And why monarch over brands like Mercian or mazon which have similar designs?

Devon Manchester has chosen to use Mercian Evolution 0.1 kit to play in for your national team and there is some stock available in NZ. The leggards are 15 - 20% lighter than OBO and he thinks they aid mobility. Legs, Kickers and Gloves are all high-rebound. The new Evolution Pro range is also being well received this season in Europe.

Why? What do you not like about it, or what do you want to be better? Form? Function? Fit? Price?

I wear all Obo kit, apart from the helmet. All L or XL, apart from the smock. For legs & kickers, biggest reason is they don't twist like the other stuff I've tried. For hands, it's all about the fit & feel of them compared to gloves like the Gryphon or similar designs. For the other stuff, it's partly a case of buying the same brand I trust with the rest of my gear, partly simply liking the brand itself, what the company does and how it's marketed, partly that it does feel more protective than some of the other stuff, and partly past experience. I got first set of obo legs many years ago, loved them, and have developed into a loyal customer since then.

6ft 3 don't have any experience of Mercian or mazon , Mercian looks good heard differing things about mazon. I came across monarch almost by accident after I got fed up with obo , I find it lighter and more than happy with the fit and rebound

Ignoring the 6' 3 bit (I'm not tall enough to have to inform air traffic control when I stand up) this is the same for me.

I wear a combination of Obo HR LGs, Monarch GCP01 kickers, Obo HR RHP, Monarch GCP01 LHP. That's by choice; I like the protection & rebound from the Monarch gear but Obo LGs slide better and I just like the HR RHP shape. Mine are medium cos I'm only 5'6".

Some brands that are also available in NZ are mazon, mercian and brabo. There is a little bit of monarch floating about as well.

It comes down to what you want to do that obo doesn't do, or what you don't want to do that it does. Unfortunately the only way to figure that out is to try it. It's a bit of a wasted investment buying gear you don't like.

Tried TK for one game. Sold straight after.

I had no confidence in the Leg guards to provide protection other than from absolutely straight on and the kickers absolutely shredded my ankles and shins.

I loved them, apart from the old twisting issue.

Nope. 2016 S1 legs n kicks (but they were blue so you get 1 point).
On a positive not I accidentally drove past the hockey centre today and tried on the new kickers and legguards that Tommy Alexander had a hand in designing. They are ace. Luckily I hid my credit card from myself.......

TK kickers needed preparing properly before use. Large size food can place in the top of the kicker and then the back strap done up tight. leave it for a week and the ankle issue will have gone away.
I had the GX2's, kindly provided by the generous Animal. was pretty happy with them. Only the protection on the calf was a bit too small for my rather meaty legs.

now using OBO would wouldnt have any issue going back to TK
