    Good day,

    I have few questions regarding indoor hockey that I would like to clarify;

    1. When a PC is completed, can a defender still wear a face mask outside their defending half. i.e. A defender saved a shot during a PC and he counters attack which resulted a goal. I don't see the face mask has given any advantage but I can't find it in the rules book either. Your view?

    2. Can an attacker drill into a Goal Keeper or a player with GK privilege?

    3. 3 Metres umpire's Signal - Some umpires extend one arm straight up in the air showing an open hand with all fingers extended and some of them just indicate with 3 fingers extended. Which is correct? does it matter?

    4. When the ball travels over the side-board in the circle: Is the play restarted one metre outside the circle and one metre from the side-board or three metre outside cricle and one metre from side board? I was watching some videos online and seeing some umpires start at the dotted line (3M) outside circle and 1M from side board..

    Thanks.

    1. This is discussed in the FIH umpire briefing.
Completing a defending action does not mean participate in a counter-attack.
If the defender gives a pass to an attacker and that results in a goal then fine. If the defender runs across the entire pitch and scores, then FH. Preferably way before he even got close to the goal.

    2. An attacker cannot drill into a block, i.e. defender with stick flat on the ground. If a PWGKP is defending using that technique, then I would not allow it. A GK will never defend like that, so that is not an issue.

    3. Doesn't matter. Everybody should know what is meant with an open hand showing all five fingers, especially if accompanied with a shout of "keep 3 everyone"

    4. See the rulebook:
    Hope this helps.

Thanks Folmer, that is very helpful. The umpire's manager briefing document that you linked, it's for 2015. Is there any for 2016? If there aren't any, I presume the 2015 document is still valid for 2016?

The 2015 version is the latest. Until the FIH release a new one, this is still valid.
There will most probably be an update as the 2017 rules will have some changes like the introduction of a long corner restart (source).

Redumpire, the only difference is long corner in indoor for 2017?

Nope! Take a look at the new version of the rule book. All the changes are marked by a line by the side of the text. There are too many for me to list here! The main ones are: the introduction of the long corner equivalent (rule 7.3); changes to rule 13.2 about the taking of attacking hits within 3m of the circle; and the introduction of a one minute suspension for a green card.

And an old FHF favourite r.4.3 which now reads:
No more Gotcha "More than one colour shirts" malarkey now!
