    wow
I haven't been here from ages:)

What is going on in polish hockey?

Im men league Grunwald and Pomorzanin are definetely the best during this season. Grunwald is leading but Pomorzanin won with Grunwald 5-2 two weeks ago. Sadly Pomorzanin didn't manage to win promotion to nex EHL round. I belive that Grunwald will do that....

We know also that 8 teams will compete in indoor league. PHA started preparation to February Indoor World Cup in Poznań - sadly without Spain :(

5 teams in women league fight for the title. There is new team on the map of polish hockey - Sparta Gniezno. If U are interested in results of women competition here U find link..

You're right Nic, that's really weird!

"The following teams are entitled to take part in the FIH Indoor World Cup for Men and
    Women:
    1.1 Host Nation – Poland 1 vacancy
The host nation of the Indoor World Cup shall be automatically qualified.

    1.2 Continental Qualifications 5 vacancies
Five (5) Indoor Hockey Continental Champions, except that if Poland is also the
Continental Champion in Europe, the 2nd placed team in the European Indoor
    Continental Championship will qualify automatically.

    1.3 Qualified Teams 6 vacancies
The other 6 teams qualified from the respective Continental Federation Cup indoor
tournaments based upon ranking from the (Continental) ranking of the most recent
    World Indoor Cup.

    Final Rankings 2007 (Men)
    Vienna (AUT) 1. GER 2. POL 3. ESP 4. CZE 5. RUS 6. AUT
    7. CAN 8. AUS 9. SUI 10. ITA 11. RSA 12. TRI

the canadian men finished 7th in vienna and so the pan am region became "first reserve" should ANY qualified team drop out. Knowing this, it was critical for USA to reach the final in venezuela in the Pan Am indoor. The winner would get a direct spot, but the runner up had a chance to be in Poznan.

peter dont take me wrong im glad you guys are getting to the world cup but i find it odd that a non euro country get a euro spot since the spotted allready have been given to euro it should logically be given to another euro country but if lets say canada dropped out it should go to anothe american country

Ofcourse there is something i have missed because FIH must be pretty sure on what they are doing

Btw congrats on getting to the WC will you take part in Wasa this year as well?

that's just the way the rules worked. was the same for the last one in vienna.

enjoyed wasa, but found copenhagen very expensive. we are going to arminen in vienna this year, as they have 6 nation plus host club and austria u21.

i am sorry you guys missed out-you came so close and have a good team. make it next time-keep playing.

    Okay to bad
we are playing poland/russia/austria/canada/iran from the wc and some other teams in moscow so we will get the chance to play against some of the best teams before the worldcup

the whole thing is a bit sad because i think we could beat some of the teams in the world cup and give most of them a though game on a good day but as you say better luck next time then our avrage age would be around 26 instead of 21 which will probably be in our favour

    Nic

i agree that you have a good team and would have competed well at the IWC. I hope you have an enjoyable tournament in Moscow. That is a good list of teams.

    Red
I heard from a spanish GK that their federation chose to focus resources on the outdoor teams, so pulled their men and women. This is a strange decision, at a time when more and more countries around the world are recognising the benefits of indoor. England have made a major commitment over the past few years.

I remember playing against france in the first IWC in Leipzig. They were a great team and Frederick Soyez was an amazing forward. There wasn't a shot he didn' think he could make--and he madew some great ones.

Gocu--will you have any role at the IWC? hope to see you there. I will be coaching the USA Men.

I remember playing against Lille Sports Institute (with Fred Soyez, Cedric Dagostino, etc.) during university championships.
It was so scary to stay on the post facing Soyez's short corners

Outdoor, Malaysia would definitely outplay Iran. But indoors, its the other way round lol
It's interesting to take note Namibia's participation too.
