The FIH has launched a new Rules of Hockey app for iPhone and Android. Read more here.

Better than having the PDF downloaded. Still, funny that this weekend I had to show a coach rule 9.9 and he still, upon looking at the rule in the PDF on my phone, insisted that it wasn't a rule. Maybe in the app each rule is followed by a statement that reads, "Yes. This really is a rule."

Had the same at the weekend, had to double check after but it was the one about the injector feinting at a PC, they are just replaced as per rule, coach insisted the PC is reversed. Unfortunately didn't have time to hang around after the game to show

    Me too

Now to add the indoor rules and an umpiring toolkit (to keep score, cards and time) and it's complete.

Don't agree. I'm only in my second season of umpiring and find this very useful.

Oh... and images of the umpiring signals might be a nice extra as well.

If anyone thinks they can use the app to keep score, cards and times during a game, then they should be shot! ;)

It's an app, for a smartphone. How about little videos? Settling once and for all whether the FIH means to have the hands moving in unison alternately up and down on a bully signal (mimicking the bully action) or, alternately with one hand up while the other is down (mimicking juggling).

"4.2 Bully: move hands alternately up and down in front of the body with palms facing each other."

Is this really a matter of controversy that requires "Settling once and for all"?

Instead of the snarky remarks, how about a declarative statement? Mimic a bully or mimic juggling.

How much more declarative than "4.2 Bully: move hands alternately up and down in front of the body with palms facing each other" do you need it to be?

Not wanting to stoke the fires here but couldnt that mean:

Left hand goes up and right hand goes down - almost like a washing of the hands motion

    OR

Move (both) hands alternately up and down - palms always facing each other, hands never deviate from facing each other and hands are moved up and down together. Sort like "your exits are here, here and here"
