Just saw this on my daily gram sesh.

Clearly thats an Atlas stick (and matching glove) that's been cosmetically altered to show Alfa.

I've noticed a few Indian's changing up the appearance of their sticks to show a different brand.
Sardar Singh comes to mind, covering his Atlas with 'Flash' stickers.

Is this that common a practice?

This type of thing happens in many sports. Cyclists do it if their sponsor doesn't produce a bike that suits their riding style.

I once looked into a tour pro golfers bag, marked 'Wilson' (his sponsor) .... all the irons were Mizuno (with the names covered but still recognisable) and the 'woods' were TaylorMade, with the copper head colouring painted over :)
At the time many of the tour pros were using Mizuno under various disguises, mainly because Mizuno were then providing the best on-course technical support.
I think it's fair to say that the major equipment manufacturers, for practically all sports, all make 'high quality' equipment, but different players just prefer to use different makers' kit ... and not always that of the company who is sponsoring them!
    In hockey,
I know of one small company who used-to supply re-badged, custom-made sticks to top players sponsored by another, much larger manufacturer, with the approval of the big company!!

I think @SPetitt and me thinking about the same manufacturer. If I might not be wrong one whole team used these custom sticks all branded the same during one Olympics.

There was a Tour de France in very heavy rain a fair few years back and all the riders junked their sponsor kit and wore the Castelli Gabba rain coat as it was widely regarded as the best at the time. Team bikes are a bit different now for the top riders, away from the generic bikes from Mavic they'll normally just use their main team bikes

I think you are probably correct @NicfromSweden;)

I suppose there is a small amount of customer deception in this sort of thing ... they think their hero is using Brand X which means it must be 'the best' , whereas the hero has actually chosen to use Brand Y because s/he thinks it is better (at least for him/her)
If you were the 'hero' would you be bothered about this deception? And what about the CEO of Brand X company?

IIRC one of the recent Australian GKs was sponsored by Mazon but wearing an Obo helmet so he covered over all the Obo stickers on the helmet.

Here is another really obvious effort that I spotted.

If anything, it makes me think that Gryphon are better than Kuka.
Which may or may not be true, but surely Kuka aren't chuffed with it?
