The Euro Hockey League began in the 2007/2008 hockey season and introduced many innovations in the sport that have created a high quality, fast flowing, dynamic variation on the game; most of these innovations have subsequently been adopted by the sport in recent years.

This will be the first time that the Euro Hockey League has come to England and represents an exciting opportunity for hockey enthusiasts to see top English clubs competing with the best teams in Europe. Many of the world's finest hockey players will be on show following the London 2012 Olympics.

Fantastic news! Of course, the end of October will probably be wall to wall sunshine and 20 degrees (Bearing in mind this year's weather so far) so it should be a great weekend!

I saw a couple of matches at EG at the back end of last season and there was a sense that something was in the pipeline. It wasnt obvious what was in the pipeline but the work being done at the ground etc indicated something was afoot!

Sally Munday, Chief Executive of England Hockey, said; "England Hockey is delighted that the EHL is coming to England for the first time. We are working hard to provide great spectator experiences to hockey fans across England and are excited about this high calibre addition to our calendar. The decision to appoint East Grinstead Hockey Club as hosts is testament to its continued high performance at domestic and European level as well as the exemplary amibition the club has off the field to develop its role within the community. We look forward to working with East Grinstead and the EHL to deliver a great event for our sport."

How much help did the EHB give to EG?

If they are helping then thats fab - but if they didnt help them in the bidding process, or even approach EG to help them bid, then its a bit crap that they suddenly take ownership of the event by saying stuff like 'our calender, and we worked hard'

Im just interested to know when the EHB started working with EG to get this event to come to England.

MK, I'm guessing this isn't the best place to ask! You'd need to ask some of the guys at EG who'd been involved.
