With Wales and Scotland today winning promotion to Division I, does anyone know when was the last time England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland were all in it together?

    1. Men's, women's or both?

    2. Assuming neither ENG nor IRE are relegated next week of course...

Sorry, it was the Men who gained promotion today and yes, assuming Eng and Ire stay up!

Well the Scottish players have been saying on twitter that this is their 6th attempt at making the A division (whether that's personal or as a nation I don't know) and I overheard Welsh supporters yesterday saying they can't ever remember being in the top flight. So quite a while is the answer!

I'm 99% sure it's the Welsh men's first time in the top tier.

Thanks redumpire - Hockey Wales are now saying 1999 but I know the competition has had different formats over the years so that might be the reason.

It will be interesting to see how it affects the GB buildup to Tokyo with all 3 home nations playing at that level.

Obviously hoping that England and Ireland stay up too - though the pure Scotsman in me may not be 100% behind a successful England :p

It's brilliant that all four home nations could be in it together in 2019 - think only the Welsh women miss out; but looking at the Euro's 2017 Women's it's difficult to see how both SCO and IRL can both stay up (unless one of the major nations tanks) but with the men AUT and POL look the likely relegation favourites meanung ENG, IRL, SCO and WAL should all be there in Belgium.
The press release suggests "Antwerp" as the venue so I assume the games will be held in Brasschat, a venue I know well?!!

    Nope

It will be in Antwerp itself: "sportcentrum Wilrijkse Plein", which is a bit south of centre; 2 brand new pitches, the pet project of the flemish nationalist mayor of Antwerp.

Luckily it won't be in Brasschaat.

Thanks for that, not sure what you have against Brasschat? Lovely village, easy to get to, nice ground, maybe a bit too small for the Euros but managed the World League just fine. meanwhile, looking up the above link for close hotels!!

The infrastructure of Brasschaat is lagging, unambitious and in the middle of nowhere. Except if you have a car (which is impossible to park)

Wilrijk is served by a pre metro line which gets you in 15 min to the centre of Antwerp.

Oh, harsh! I stayed in the centre of Antwerp and getting to the ground without a car it was a doddle! Tram and change to a bus...no problems, and the last transport back was after midnight (hic!). As for parking, although for the WL I didn't notice, surely there would be P+R schemes?
Anyway, that's in the past and I've been looking for hotels near the next venue - there aren't any close by on booking.com save for Crowne Plaza - but plenty in and around the centre close to the station/No's 2 and 6 tram. Ibis looks a good cheap bet; but if the Plaza is available and not too pricey that's a good option....bet loads of officials and maybe players will stay there too.
Know it's way in advance, but if Cityjet are still flying from London City to Antwerp that's me sorted.

Hopefully the new pitches will have some hotels nearby. Brasschaat is a disaster for accommodation.

Wilrijk is actually part of the Antwerp municipality. Not within walking distance (a brisk 45 minutes walk), but well connected with two tramlines.
Antwerp has around 100 hotels and thousands of airbnb's. Nice city as well. It's dutch speaking but people will be able (and willing) to speak english.
