Not sure where you get your figures from. My understanding is that LV is 5000 in normal event mode and as much as 10,000 during World Champs.

Wikipedia by the looks of it! :)

I think 3000 was the original number of permanent seats when it first opened, which has been expanded since.

A few more thoughts from the UK perspective:

    1. Riverbank stadium was a temporary facility for the 2012 Olympics and no longer exists, I'd probably have mentioned that on the video.

    2. The images of Lee Valley aka Wapping Valley are indeed of a 3,000 capacity stadium because they are from 2014. As you can see in the video it only has the East and West stand at that point. After Wapping HC agreed an anchor tenancy, the stadium operators invested in an additional two end stands (North and South) to cater for the additional fans. I expect there are more up to date photos available. It is now a 5,000 base capacity in the "bowl" capable of expansion to 15,000.

Joking aside, capacity is much less relevant to my mind than attendance - although nicer facilities do lead to higher attendances.

I agree the Cape Town stadium looks beautiful though, keen to visit at some point. Table Mountain is a heck of a backdrop.

Wagner in Amsterdam wins for me. Old stand was charming but the new one is the perfect blend of old and new. Also helps its in a great location with great public transport links.

There are some pretty nice stadiums in Russia.

I have played a couple of times in Athens and the stadium is a mess unfortunately.

    Interesting post.

I've fleshed out the details form the video a bit and then tabled them up to give a very loose view of countries that support hockey and build big stadia to showcase it.
The age / average age is a loose interpretation of when they may have started supporting it on this scale.

Where possible I've used the data from the video but have indicated where I have searched alternative sources.
If anyone can provide any of the suspect / missing data I will gladly update.
If no one is that interested then I won't. ;):D

The Riverbank Arena was always 15,000 for hockey (albeit with slightly smaller numbers for the small test event). It was reduced to 5,000 for the paralympics which did not feature hockey. It was only used in 2012. As such I don't think it is correct to state that it was expanded to 15,000 but this should be reflected as the correct number.

Fair challenge. Wikipedia seems to agree.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverbank_Arena

I'll update my file and update here if enough other changes warrant it.
It ups England Avg Capacity to 9k btw. Slightly irrespective though as it also closed 5 years ago.

    **EDIT
It also ups the Average Standard capacity across all stadia to 10,282 but.......

If you remove the outliers (Lahore 45k and Glasgow 540) and the closed stadia (Riverbank 15k and Athens 7k) then the Average Standard Capacity is a much more realistic 8,618

    Thanks.

There are a number of collegiate stadiums in the U.S. that would fit into these brackets. Some are obviously multi-sport facilities.

    "great transport links"??

    Really?

There's a cramped bus once in a while , and a tram would cost you a 30 minutes walk.

According by dutch tradition, you go to this hockey CLUSTER (Wagener stadium + 3 clubs + 2 hockey shops + all in all 14 pitches) by BIKE!
Basically the only efficient way to get here.

Have you ever been? Having bee many times it's far better than places like Rotterdam for public transport. Buses run every 10 mins or so, the walk to the tram is about 10 minutes. Few stops on said bus gets you in to Amsterdam, which has plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Having never gotten a bike there and only had to miss one bus at the EHL when it was busy (next bus was 30 mins later) you're talking nonsense.

From 2016 Almeerse Hockey Club got 13 six-seaters, donated by sponsors.
A bit disappointing maybe for a club participating in "Hoofdklasse" .

La Gantoise, Ghent, Belgium is constructing a structure on one side of the main pitch with 1100 seats which will bring the capacity close to 1800

We played at Fylde (UK North West Hockey league, division 5NS, I think) and they have a little stand with about 150-200 seats. It's a lovely new setup they have there for a club not in the top flight.
