But, with respect, Danny, that's 'ambition'...a desire to improve ...it's not 'fear of failure'.

It's great that you say "I did a PB, but I can run even faster!", or "I scored twice but missed three!", because it means you want to do even better.
And the only productive reason for analysing past performance is to identify 'strengths & weaknesses" which leads to a 'personal improvement plan'.
(The worst reason, IMO, is to see who else we can blame for 'failures'....if we don't take some responsibility for our 'experiences', then there's nothing to learn, and we simply wait for life to 'happen to us' :( )

Thanks for your kind comments Contra!

Before we start calling Justin Justino I think you should tell us what the subtitle of that film says: "Un Asesino de la Tercera Edad"...

An assassin of the [something] age...?

with my rudimentary Spanish, I took it as "Killer of the Old Folks" ("third age" loosely "old people")
But the bull horn motif over the "o" is very cool!

An assassin from the third age. Or an old killer if it sounds familiar... actually the writer of the script is someone playing for the veterans somewhere very hot, and he's sick of being awarded with advantages and never been rewarded with any of the clever obstructions he provoked to breath a bit of air, while the beer was getting warm...

So is that "an killer who is old" or "a killer of old people"?

I'm not sure Justin would want to be known as either of those!?

Is this not a tad off topic and risking the forum police arresting you for enjoying yourselves.

It was enjoyable until you wrecked it with your catty comment, Grumpy.

advantages and clever obstructions...yep, that sounds like what just went on here Mowly!
Apologies to all for taking the thread off-topic (I get a little excited when I think my high school level language skills still work!), but back onto the point of the thread....

wrong. the killer is old and retired from his all life profession "puntillero" A subordinate of the bullfighter who definitely kill the animal with the knife seen at the poster.

the letters are full bull fighting design... End of explanation and let's go back to topic, it's very interesting. A question for you, G9, how do you deal with talented young players willing to quit for work or studies or whatever???

I may specialise in offing the elderly, Grumpy, but for you I could possibly, in the circumstances, make an exception  ;)

And thanks very much, contramowly for blowing my cover...maybe I shall just have to retire.

It's not fear of failure...just of the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía.

    Justino

I knew the knife in the "T" had a special name in bull fighting, but couldn't pull that one out of the memory banks. Have PM'd you on the rest of this, so as not to bore anyone with even more off-topicness...

iI and many posters have gone off topic before and someone has come in and pointed out that this was so, with equally if not more so catty remarks .
I just wanted to see what would happen when i did it.
I was not greatly surprised that i was told off.

I see that it has remained off topic so i expect that if i happen to wander off topic i will not have someone pointing this out.

The start of the topic 'fear of failure' was in deed very interesting and i was hoping it would develop into a really well discussed topic.
That would benefit understand a lot more about people playing sport and though they deal with this fear or help other people cope.
I do hope it does return to the original topic.
The divergence as it has been put to me before is not of general interest so could be followed up through pm's.

Advice that a topic has moved off topic has to be accepted by all i would have thought..

Have to agree with Grumpy here that although this off-topic stuff can be enjoyable to some, others may not think the same, and he is definitely not the first person to 'tell someone off', let alone that his comment was the 'cattiest' I've seen on here, because it isn't.

Back on the subject of failure, I've always enjoyed this Michael Jordan commercial:
